Authorities say the shooting who killed 9 people Thursday at Umpqua Community College committed suicide.
The Douglas County Sheriff says police arrived at the scene 6 minutes after the first 9-1-1 call and exchanged gunfire with the shooter 2 minutes later. The medical examiner determined the shooter killed himself. Fire Chief Greg Marlar says two of the 9 killed were related to first responders.
Marlar: "It was with great sadness that we learned that Firefighter Justin Anspach lost his son Treven Taylor Anspach and EMS Paramedic Brian McFadden lost his niece Becca Ann Carnes."
The shooter's family has released a statement expressing shock and deep sadness.
