Springfield Looks For Collaboration With Neighbors On UGB Plan

Rachael McDonald

Springfield is slowing down its efforts to expand its Urban Growth Boundary. The city has proposed designating more areas for industrial development. Residents along Seavey Loop Road near Mt. Pisgah have voiced opposition to plans to develop along College View, which parallels Interstate 5. Springfield spokesman Niel Laudati says the City Council decided Monday to make the effort more collaborative with neighbors.

Laudati: "I think it’s a pretty reasonable thing that the council did. People have concerns and they have ideas. This actually came from some of the residents there, they said, hey lets see what the visioning looks like. What does council have in mind?"

Laudati says Mayor Christine Lundberg wanted to involve the community in the process. A College View committee will be formed in the next couple of weeks. The city hopes an expansion of its Urban Growth Boundary will attract more businesses and jobs to Springfield.
