The Umpqua Community College building where a man fatally shot 9 people will be completely remodeled under a plan approved Thursday by the school’s Board of Trustees.

A 16-member panel of students, teachers, staff and others recommended that Snyder Hall be remodeled, turning part of it into a memorial garden space. UCC spokeswoman Ann-Marie Levis says the committee wanted to honor the place as one of learning while honoring those who died.
Levis: “What students were saying to the committee was, we’re here for 2 years. We really want this to be something that faculty and staff and the administration and the community can feel a part of and feel like it’s the right recommendation for moving forward for Umpqua Community College.”
The estimated cost of the remodel is around 3 million dollars. The college will ask the state legislature for funding in its February session. Snyder Hall has been closed since the October 1st shooting. 10 people died including the shooter. 9 people were wounded.
