Vin Lananna is stepping down as the president of Eugene non-profit Track Town USA. Over the past several years, Lananna actively campaigned to bring the 2021 World Track & Field Championships to Eugene.
Lananna tells the Register Guard he feels he was “stretched thin” between his commitments to Track Town and Oregon21, two organizations built around growing track and field in the state.
Michael Reilly is CEO of Track Town:
“I think he’s got tremendous confidence that he’s built the organization the way he wanted it’s in very capable hands. I’ve been running the day to day operations for quite some time. Now we’ve really got the programs really moving along and I think it's really a tremendous opportunity for him to focus on what's next for the sport of track and field."
Lananna saw some controversy after Eugene was announced as the World championship destination. This included a conflict of interest related to his position at USA Track and Field and a Department of Justice inquiry into Eugene’s bid to the International Association of Athletics Federation.
He will continue to serve as the associate athletic director at the University of Oregon.
