Chamber Music Amici

Music and history combine in unique ways as Swedish violinist Semmy Stahlhammer and his wife, cellist Isabel Blomme, visit the Willamette Valley. They’ll perform with Chamber Music Amici in Springfield on April 17th and 18th, in a program that ranges from Tchaikovsky to Klezmer. Semmy Stahlhammer will also appear at Temple Beth Israel on Wednesday, April 13th, to speak about his book Codename Barber, which details the story of his father Mischa, a Polish Jew who was a landmine specialist in the People’s Army in World War II.

Oboist Allan Vogel and flutist Janice Tipton are renowned for their work with the Oregon Bach Festival, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Bach’s Circle, among many other credits. They’re currently in residency with Chamber Music Amici for a week educational offerings and performances that will culminate in a Baroque performance with Chamber Music Amici at the Shedd in Eugene on Monday, April 27th.

The Willamette Valley’s musical community lost one of its most dedicated souls, when Jeff Eaton passed away from cancer in late January. He had three tenures with the Oregon Mozart Players, including two as executive director and one as general manager. As a cellist, he performed with the Eugene Symphony, the Eugene Opera and the Oregon Bach Festival, among others.

Scott Kritzer has become one of America’s leading classical guitarists, along a path that has taken him from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, from solo recordings to collaborative performances, and teaching experience that includes the creation of his own guitar training method. He is in residence with Chamber Music Amici for a week of performances through December 8th, and he joined us in the KLCC studios for performance and conversation.

Chamber Music Amici brings an unusual multi-media presentation to the Jaqua Concert Hall in Eugene on Wednesday, June 11th and to a house concert in Cottage Grove on Thursday, June 12th. They’ll perform Dvorak’s American String Quartet, synchronized to slides from Looking Back: Lane County and the Lane Historical Society.  They'll also perform music from Gershwin and Mozart. Violinist and artistic director Sharon Schuman joins Eric Alan in the KLCC studios to share music and descriptions of the slides.
