Veteran Gets New Home For The Holidays

A soldier, his wife and five kids will experience the holiday season in a new home-- thanks to a veterans housing program in Lane County. KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert visited the family and has this report.

Recently, military veteran Logan Murrill and his wife Rebecca were renting a house in Oakridge. But it was being sold and they had to move. Logan called Lane County Veteran’s Services.

Logan Murrill: ”We weren’t expecting a house or anything. We were just wondering if there were some volunteers who could help us pack.”

Whoville Residents And Advocates Ask City For More Time

Advocates for the Eugene homeless encampment known as Whoville are pushing for an extension of a deadline to close down the camp.  They expect the City will begin the process of evicting residents Tuesday.

Whoville Homeless Camp Must Close

Eugene City Council hears the City Manager's recommendation to close Whoville homeless camp.

In a work session today (Wednesday) the Eugene City Council voted to shut down the homeless camp known as Whoville. The motion includes opening an alternate location in West Eugene.

Eugene City Manager John Ruiz moved that Whoville, currently located at Broadway and Hilyard, be closed by no later than April 1st. Ruiz also recommended authorizing a second "rest stop" at the Northwest Expressway location.
