The community has stepped up to help after a fire destroyed the Eugene Mission’s kitchen last week. Saturday’s Food Truck Festival fundraiser brought in $45-thousand .

A fundraiser for the Eugene Mission drew more than 13,000 people, Saturday, according to Executive Director Jack Tripp. The Eugene Food Truck Fest featured a tasting competition, live music, and family activities. 28 food trucks were parked at the Valley River Center, with 10 percent of each truck's proceeds going to support the Eugene Mission.

An early Thursday morning fire at the Eugene Mission has been ruled accidental by the Eugene Springfield Fire Department. Investigators say a container of oily rags spontaneously combusted.

The Eugene Mission is the only drop-in night shelter for homeless adults in Lane County. In recent years, the Christian organization has developed the “Life Change Program” to help people deal with addiction and other problems. It’s not easy.

The largest mental health facility in Lane County isn’t a hospital. It’s the county’s only nightly shelter for homeless folks. That’s according to Eugene Mission Executive Director Jack Tripp. Earlier this month, he took county leaders on a tour of the mission.

On a Saturday morning, a church in Corvallis fills slowly with people looking to fill their stomachs with warm breakfast food. Within the crowd is Marge Pettitt, a homeless activist in the community. She is friendly and repeatedly stops eating to give hugs to people she knows. But when she’s on the street, she’s cautious whenever she comes across strangers.

55-year-old John Baker has been homeless on and off for the past 5 years. While at a homeless shelter in Aspen, Colorado, he wrote a sitcom screenplay called "The Homeless Bums of Aspen." He spoke with KLCC's Angela Kellner about submitting the screenplay to NBC during their open call for sitcoms.
