Eugene's Saturday Market begins its 45th season April 4th at the park blocks of 8th and Oak St. The local market began in 1970 and is a staple of the city. Kim Still is the Manager of Promotions and Advertising. She says what makes Eugene's market unique is the requirement products are produced by the individuals selling them.

The design phase is moving forward to develop the “Market Street District” on 6th Street in downtown Eugene. Friday marked the first of three public input sessions.

The two-acre site stretches from Oak to Pearl, across from the Fifth Street Market. Developers envision the area as a mix of retail and housing. Some of the units will be available at below market rates. Steve Ochs is with the Housing and Community Services Agency or HACSA.

The Pittsburgh band Stick Against Stone merged punk with global rhythms. They moved to Eugene in the mid-1980s, and recorded a show at Eugene’s Saturday Market in 1985 just now being released on CD as The Oregon Bootleg Tapes. Now a new version of the band, the Stick Against Stone Orechestra, is getting national attention. Eric Alan talks to Will Kreth about the music and politics then and now.
