Kelly Kuo

  Eugene native Elizabeth Rowe has gone on to national prominence as a flutist, including her current role with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where she holds the Walter Piston Principal Flute Chair. She has also held key positions within the orchestras of Baltimore, Washington DC and Fort Wayne, and currently teaches at both the New England Conservatory and the Tanglewood Music Center. She’s returned to her hometown for a week-long residency that includes performances at Beall Hall on Wednesday, November 4th, and with the Oregon Mozart Players on Saturday, November 7th.

13-year-old violinist Claire Wells, winner of the junior division of the Oregon Mozart Players’ first Young Soloist Competition, speaks to Eric Alan before performing at Beall Hall on January 31st. She has already performed with ten orchestras in four countries.

Renowned double bassist DaXun Zhang and Kelly Kuo, artistic director of the Oregon Mozart Players, join Eric Alan to discuss their season-opening performances this weekend. Zhang is one of a family of eight bass players in China; he has performed extensively with YoYo Ma and others.

The Oregon Mozart Players present their annual Candlelight Baroque concerts on Thursday and Friday, December 19th and 20th in Eugene. Artistic director and conductor Kelly Kuo speaks with Eric Alan about baroque music, candlelight, and how it all connects to current pop culture. Music is included in the interview, ranging from Albinoni to Corelli.

The Oregon Mozart Players open their new season under the direction of Kelly Kuo on Saturday, October 5th in Beall Hall on the UO campus in Eugene. The program includes Mozart's "Coronation" piano concerto, featuring the acclaimed pianist Anton Nel, a native of South Africa now settled in Austin Texas. He stopped by the KLCC studios to visit with Eric Alan.
