Sisters To Vote On Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

A ballot measure in Sisters asks voters to decide if medical marijuana dispensaries should be allowed to operate within city limits.

Earlier in the year, the Sisters City Council adopted a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. Sisters wasn't ready to welcome licensed medical pot shops. Now, the 1,200 or so registered voters in the small tourist town will decide on Measure 9-101. It would amend the municipal code and allow dispensaries.

McKibben Womack is president of the Sisters City Council. He hears the pros and cons of medical marijuana from constituents.

Coos Bay City Council Clarifies Ordinance Banning Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

The city of Coos Bay voted 6 to 1 last week to enforce an existing ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits.

Newport City Councils Votes To Delay Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Newport City Councilors have voted to place a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries.  Earlier this year, state lawmakers agreed to allow cities to regulate dispensaries and enact temporary moratorium in order to prepare.     

At a meeting Monday night, Councilors heard from local residents opposing any delay.  Carla Williams is trying to open a dispensary in Newport to help people like her son.

More Cities Decide On Medical Pot Bans

Newport has joined the list of Oregon cities placing a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. Springfield has decided against a ban and Creswell may enact a moratorium.

At their Monday meeting, Creswell City Councilors voted in favor of a year-long moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. 4 of the 6 current council members were present and the vote was 3 to 1 to enact a ban. The council will vote again on the ban April 21st--City Administrator Michelle Amberg says Creswell requires 2 readings of an ordinance before it's passed.

Medical Marijuana Conference Coming to Eugene

A big turn-out is expected for the Oregon Medical Marijuana Business Conference in Eugene. Anthony Johnson is organizing the event this Sunday and Monday. He says the conference is a place for entrepreneurs to learn about business opportunities. He says those extend beyond growing and selling marijuana. Johnson hopes to help professionalize the business.
