Calico Live in the KLCC Studios

Calico, the band, is an Americana trio that includes songwriters Kirsten Proffit, Manda Mosher and Aubrey Richmond. They’re bringing their California country influences to Oregon in several upcoming shows, on tour behind their debut CD Rancho California. In our listening region, they’ll appear in Cottage Grove, Bend and Salem. They’ll also perform in Pistol River, Portland and Hood River, and they joined us live in the KLCC studios.

Eric John Kaiser Live at KLCC

Eric John Kaiser plays a style of music he calls Parisian Americana, reflecting his French origins and his current Portland residence. He’s touring behind a new CD of songs called Idaho, inspired by his American travels.  Before performing an album release concert at Sylvan Ridge Winery in Eugene on October 30th, he joined us live in the KLCC studios.

Music from the Chilean Andes with Phusiri Marka Live on KLCC

Phusiri Marka is a band from the Chilean Andes, whose name translates as “Town of Wind Players.” They have been performing traditional panpipe, tarka and orquestra music since 1976. Before performing in Beall Hall on the UO campus on Friday, October 24th, a smaller version of the ensemble came to play in the KLCC studios. They were joined by Juan Eduardo Wolf, assistant professor of ethnomusicology at the UO and head of the UO World Music Series.

Two Man Gentlemen Band Live at KLCC

The Two Man Gentlemen Band merge vintage swing and other acoustic styles with a wild sense of humor.  Recently, they’ve had their music used on This American Life with Ira Glass, created music for the Disney cartoon series Wander Over Yonder, and released their seventh CD, Enthusiastic Attempts at Hot Swing & String Band Favorites. The two original gentlemen of the band, Andy Bean and Fuller “The Councilman” Condon, were joined by Brian Kantor on percussion in the KLCC studios before performing at Sam Bond's Garage on October 22nd.

Blue Collar Nomad: Jake Kaida and Matthew Tavis Johnson Live at KLCC

Jake Kaida and Matthew Tavis Johnson offer an unusual combination of literature and music through their project Blue Collar Nomad. The book by Jake Kaida is subtitled The Literary Reflections of a Grassroots Pilgrim, and features place-based essays and poems from his years on the road as everything from organic farmhand to mentor for at-risk youth. A soundtrack called Wandering by pianist Matthew Tavis Johnson is being released in parallel to the book, and they’re traveling together weaving words and music live.

Blaze and Kelly Live at KLCC

Blaze and Kelly are a duo from Idaho that includes Niccole Blaze on guitar and vocals, and Mo Kelly on bass and vocals. They came in to the KLCC studios for songs and conversation in the midst of an Oregon tour, including upcoming appearances at the Arts Northwest Booking Conference, Nana's Irish Pub in Newport, at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, and the Drift Inn in Yachats.

Chris Smither Live at KLCC

Chris Smither recommends supporting KLCC with a pledge, on the final day of KLCC's Fall Radiothon.

Chris Smither has been performing and writing songs for a remarkable fifty years now, and on the occasion of that, he’s released a new album called Still on the Levee that showcases new versions of songs from across his career. A tribute CD called Link of Chain has also been released, with people from Bonnie Raitt to Josh Ritter covering Chris Smither’s songs. Before performing at the Jaqua Concert Hall of the Shedd Institute in Eugene tonight at 7:30 p.m., and stopped by the KLCC studios for a performance and interview with Eric Alan.

Mother Falcon Live at KLCC

Mother Falcon is an independent rock orchestra from Austin Texas, who are breaking down boundaries between genres, performing everything from original vocal songs to Stravinsky and Radiohead covers. After being voted “Best None of the Above” in Austin three years in a row, they were featured in an NPR Tiny Desk concert last year.  Before appearing at Cozmic in Eugene on September 10th, they performed live in the SELCO Performance Hall of the KLCC studios.

Rebecca Lomnicky and David Brewer Live at KLCC

Rebecca Lomnicky is a Scottish fiddler originally from Corvallis. In 2009, she won the Glenfiddich International Scottish Fiddle Championship in Scotland, after previously winning the junior division of the US National Scottish Fiddle Competition in 2005. Joining her in duo at the Axe and Fiddle in Cottage Grove on August 28th is the equally accomplished piper David Brewer, another Oregon native. He leads the Celtic band Molly’s Revenge, and has played with many top ensembles, including the Chieftains.
