Most states, including Oregon, elect judges to serve on all of their courts. There are, however, those who suggest that the electoral process has problems. When judges must solicit campaign contributions from lawyers who could appear before them it can create the appearance of impropriety.

The University of Oregon women's track and field squad followed in their male teammates' footsteps from the day before with a victory at Hayward Field Saturday.

It was the second time the women's track and field team has won the national championship and a repeat victory for the men's. The spotlight was on favorite Jenna Prandini, who despite a team disqualification in the 4 x 100 relay, bounced back to win the 100 meter dash.

Educators, administrators, policy makers, researchers, and parents in Eugene and across the nation are engaged in a lively debate about the Common Core State Standards and testing. The two separate but related issues include the Smarter Balanced tests now used in Oregon. In February, City Club members heard UO Professor Jerry Rosiek critique these initiatives, particularly noting the danger of relying too heavily on any system of testing to assess school productivity.

The search is over. The board of trustees voted today to name the 18th President of the University of Oregon.

Michael H. Schill has been chosen as the next U of O President. Schill is currently Dean at the University of Chicago-Law School.

Schill is a first generation college graduate--he attended Princeton.  Calling public universities “gems,” Schill says he’s proud and excited to be a Duck.

“This is an opportunity to take a great school, a proud school, an exciting school and move it forward. This is an absolutely pivotal moment for this university.”

The University of Oregon Men's Basketball team stays alive in the NCAA tournament. The 8th seeded Ducks defeated 9th seeded Oklahoma State 79-73 Friday night. Dillon Brooks had 17 points for the Ducks. Head Coach Dana Altman got the win in his return to Omaha in the same building where he once coached Creighton. Oregon Guard Joseph Young was asked about playing Wisconsin next, the team that ousted the Ducks in the tournament last year.
