It’s not every day that a benefactor makes a $500 million gift to a public university in Oregon. Since the October 2016 announcement that Phil and Penny Knight have promised to give $50 million each year for the next decade (matched by other private donations and fundraising), there has been a buzz of anticipation around this new addition to the University of Oregon. Groundbreaking on this billion-dollar new scientific and research campus is expected in February 2018.

Today, University of Oregon officials announced the design of a new science facility that’ll open to students and faculty in three years.  KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.  

  

The Domestic Violence Clinic at the University of Oregon was awarded $500,000 by the U.S. Department of Justice. The funds will be used to expand services throughout Lane County.

On the first day of testimony, a Lane County jury heard evidence involving the death of Lauren Jones, a University of Oregon student athlete who died in 2015 during an outbreak of meningicoccal disease.

An Earth Sciences research group at the University of Oregon has landed an article in “Science” magazine. It suggests a new way of judging whether faults like the Cascadia Subduction Zone are able to produce massive earthquakes.

U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley visited the University of Oregon campus today (Tuesday). He spoke to constitutional law students about the Senate's refusal to hold hearings on the President's Supreme Court nominee.
